Arif’s travel journey began in 2009, but his commitment to creating full-fledged travel content on a dedicated website started on October 1, 2016, with the launch of GoArif. His very first trip was to Jaflong — a breathtaking natural wonder and popular tourist destination in Gowainghat, Sylhet Division, Bangladesh. On that memorable journey, he was accompanied by his elder brother, Mehedi Hasan, and a family friend. That trip was truly unforgettable, and it marked the beginning of everything that followed…
Later, the name GoArif was changed to Kuhudak. The travel website, Kuhudak, was officially founded on January 28, 2024.
Blending with nature gave Arif a truly unique experience. Jaflong, located in the Sylhet district of Bangladesh, lies right on the Bangladesh–India border. From the Bangladeshi side, one can see the hanging bridge in India. Besides tourists, you’ll also find laborers working in stone collection along the riverside. If you visit Jaflong, you’ll also witness betel leaf plantations, where the green vines wrap delicately around the areca palm trees.
Jaflong sits at the foothills of the Khasi and Jaintia ranges. The pebbles arranged along the banks of the Piyain River are one of Jaflong’s key attractions. From the Bangladeshi border, you can clearly view the towering hills of Dawki across the Indian border. Waterfalls flowing from those hills add to the breathtaking scenery and are a major draw for visitors.
After visiting Jaflong, Arif realized how deeply nature fascinated him. It felt like a beautiful kind of addiction. At the time, he didn’t do much else—he simply captured photos and videos, storing them on his phone or computer.
Although Arif began writing as early as 2007 or 2008 during his school years, he didn’t start writing about travel until around 2012 or 2013. At that time, his interests were more inclined toward directing dramas. While living in Cumilla, he started writing and directing a mobile-based drama called Bachelor Family, where his friend Al-Amin played the lead role. However, the drama was never completed.
During his studies in Electronics at CCN Polytechnic Institute, Arif also attempted to write a book titled ABC of Science. Unfortunately, this work too remained unfinished and unpublished.
Back in 2007 or 2008, as a schoolboy, Arif used to write poetry—not about love, but about nature. One of his friends, Sabuj, would often share his poems and rhymes with him. Arif was deeply fascinated by Sabuj’s ability to express so much using such simple words. That inspiration lit a spark in him, and he began exploring writing himself. But it wasn’t as easy as it seemed. He often struggled to decide what to write about. Still, he kept trying—driven by a quiet, persistent desire to express himself through words.
In the beginning, Arif used to write simple rhymes and later tried his hand at poetry. His friend Sabuj’s encouragement inspired him even more. One could say, this was where Arif’s journey as a writer truly began. Over time, he discovered that writing stories brought him more satisfaction than poems or rhymes.
Eventually, he compiled a small collection of his rhymes, poems, and short stories into a booklet. He had it printed at a local computer shop next to Hasan Bhai’s store in their village market, using folded A4 paper. Since then, he continued writing from time to time. However, he never became a professional writer—writing remained a beloved hobby, something he genuinely enjoyed from the heart.
Over the years, Arif Hossain has been honored and recognized for his contributions to travel writing, digital storytelling, and innovation in Bangladesh. While he considers the love and feedback from readers his greatest reward, some notable highlights include:
British Council Award (2010): Arif Hossain received the British Council Award in 2010 for excellence in a skills competition. He was recognized for his remarkable innovation in developing an Automatic Electrical Machine (AEM). This achievement marked a significant milestone in his early career, reflecting his creativity, technical skills, and dedication to innovation.
